Annual Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration
On January 16, 2012 the Martin Luther King Coalition will hold its 30th Annual Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration!!!
Once again, we are pleased to be able to hold the celebration at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral's Community Center, located at 650 Hanover Street in Manchester.
We hope you will be there to join in the spirit of camaraderie, festivity & celebration. On this day...
- we celebrate the life and The Dream of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King
- we celebrate the accomplishments resulting from our pursuit of The Dream
- we celebrate the increasing diversity of our community
- we celebrate & honor an individual who has, in his/her passionate belief that "We Shall Overcome" attained Dr. King's Dream, and made this great State of New Hampshire a better place in which to live, with liberty & justice for all, regardless of race, color, or native origin
- we celebrate & recognize the young people who, as the leaders of tomorrow, demonstrate their knowledge & understanding of the principles of Dr. King
- we present a Guest Speaker with a message for those of all ages, relating to his/her following of principles of Martin Luther King
- we feature a local High School Band -- often an award-winning one -- for your listening pleasure
- we wrap up with a musical presentation of the outstanding Rhythm of New Hampshire Show Chorus
One of the most eagerly anticipated aspects of the Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration is that, for many of the people attending, it is the one time of year that they get to spend time with special friends & acquaintances. We celebrate that unity!
The Celebration begins with a Potluck Social from 2 - 3pm. People bring what they can, creating an interesting array of food as diverse as the audience itself!.
The Program runs from 3pm - 5pm, led by emcees extraordinaire, Jackie & Russell Weatherspoon, who have agreed to be our permanent emcees, as "nobody does it better"
While you wait for the event to roll around, you may want to reflect on Memories of the 25th Anniversary Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration. The page may be a few years old, but you'll see that it remains on our site because of the poignancy of what Reverend Christopher Emerson (that year's Guest Speaker in his last public appearance before his retirement) remembered most about the event.
