The MLK Award
For the past 30 years, the Martin Luther King Coalition has presented the prestigious Martin Luther King Award to a New Hampshire resident who carries on work for social justice in the spirit of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The principles of social justice on which Dr. King's Dream was based, include equal rights for racial minorities, women, the physically challenged, persons with special education needs, persons suffering from mental illness, the labor movement & the working poor, and social justice for our community's immigrants & refugees.
All of the 22 MLK Coalition Member Organizations, and the 14 Previous Recipients of the Award who are still with us, are given the opportunity to nominate an individual whom they feel is worthy of the recognition that the Martin Luther King Award represents, for the manner in which he or she has pursued the turning of Dr. King's Dream of liberty and justice for all, into a reality. The Martin Luther King Coalition's Steering Committee has the very challenging task of selecting one individual from those nominated, to be honored by the presentation of this year's Martin Luther King Award. It is no small comfort to know that the other nominees can be nominated again in future years.
